Programming:

It is often said that half the solution to a problem can be found in the way in which the problem is framed. We believe the same applies to design problems, that the process of articulating the objectives of a building project can go a long way toward shaping its design. Having programmed millions of square feet of space, we are experts at helping our clients determine what it is that they should build. The functionality of our buildings over the long term and our remarkable record of cost control during construction are both due in large part to the thoroughness of our programming efforts. In fact, even on those projects in which the program has already been established before we are brought on board, our clients often ask us to review and improve their programs before commencing design.

Forensic Architectural Services:

The Goldstein Partnership has been retained to provide architectural services to analyze, correct, and complete tens of millions of dollars worth of public and private projects in which design and construction defects have been found. We are experts in the review of projects for regulatory compliance, the diagnosis of design and construction problems, and the development and implementation of appropriate solutions. Working with an experienced team of consultants and in conjunction with our clients' financial and legal advisers, we help identify the responsible parties, quantify damages, prepare necessary reports, and provide other expert services.

Timber Construction:

“Anyone who works with wood, either as a designer or builder, will find something new, useful and exciting in these inspiring pages. I haven't seen such comprehensive treatment of the subject in any other text.”

-Kenneth Carper, Professor of Architecture, Washington State University

Starting with his teaching experience as a graduate student in the MIT School of Architecture, and climaxing with his award-winning and internationally-published design of the Montville Township (NJ) Public Library, Eli Goldstein, AIA has become a well-known expert in the area of exposed long-span heavy timber construction. His book, Timber Construction for Architects and Builders (McGraw-Hill, 1999) is one of the definitive professional texts on the design and construction of large-scale buildings framed with large sawn or glue-laminated wood beams, columns, and trusses. His significant innovations in the design of the Montville Library led the editors of Engineering News-Record to feature the library in a cover story, and to select him as a Newsmaker in 1995. Of the 25 recipients from around the world, Mr. Goldstein was the only architect.
