Sustainability, Resilience & Adaptation

The Goldstein Partnership provides a broad range of comprehensive design and advisory services to cities and towns, addressing the impact of climate change on their public buildings, and on their ability to maintain uninterrupted delivery of essential public services. Our services extend to the review of existing land use planning documents and permitting procedures, for which we provide recommendations to public governments for revisions to encourage or mandate sustainable land use and construction practices overall, and to coordinate them with updated environmental policy and codes.

We are retained by Public Governments in predominantly coastal locations that are increasingly affected by severe weather events. We are experts in adapting existing Public buildings and designing new energy-efficient Public buildings to make them resilient to high winds and flooding. We are conversant in FEMA reimbursement policy and our exhaustive knowledge of building codes enables us to help local governments secure full reimbursement for codes and standards upgrades that would otherwise be overlooked by FEMA. In one recent example, our assistance resulted in FEMA increasing their reimbursement by 25%, allowing sufficient funding for a project to proceed.

It has come to be accepted that buildings are responsible for 35% of carbon emissions. Our expertise in sustainable building design and renovation, land-use planning enables us to help our Public clients reduce their environmental impact, and be exemplars for private development. We also provide Short and Long-Term Capital Improvement Plans, and assemble teams to provide cost-benefit analyses that help public entities prioritize sustainable improvements across their public buildings.

Our Architectural and Planning services are funded by local, state, and federal sources.
We serve as:
1) Direct advisors/consultants to local governments
2) Contributing members of Engineer-led teams, and
3) Specialized consultants to other Design and Planning firms.

We have presented our work in the US, and abroad at ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability 9th Global Congress in Bonn, Germany.

We attended the recent C40 Mayors Copenhagen Climate Summit and are among the core invited members of the C40 Mayors knowledge hub; allowing us to support local government leaders with cutting edge insights and practical resources.
We contributed to the crafting of the New Jersey Green Building Manual: a voluntary, web-based educational resource tailored for New Jersey that provides economic and environmental best practices across the spectrum of green building categories.
